6 Hellrote Tomaten
75 g Weizenmehl
75 g Maismehl; Reformhaus
1 Esslöffel Brauner Zucker
Salz
Schwarzer Pfeffer; a.d.M.
1 l Öl; zum Frittieren

Variante

300 g Zwiebeln; mittel große

Die Tomaten waschen, abtrocknen und in halb bis ein Zentimeter dicke
Scheiben schneiden.

Beide Mehlsorten mit Zucker, Salz und Pfeffer auf einem tiefen Teller
mischen. Die Tomaten-scheiben darin wenden, überschüssiges Mehl
abschütteln.

In einem Topf Oel erhitzen, bis an einem hinein gehaltenen Holzstäbchen
Bläschen emporsteigen. Oel in der Friteuse auf etwa 180 Grad erhitzen. Die
Tomaten darin nach und nach von beiden Seiten goldbraun backen. Mit einem
Schaumlöffel herausnehmen, kurz auf Küchenpapier legen und dadurch
entfetten.

Variante: Auf die gleiche Art werden in Amerika "Fried Onion Rings",
gebackene Zwiebelringe, zubereitet. Dafür mittelgroße, geschälte und in
Ringe geschnittenen Zwiebeln in die Mehlmischung tauchen und wie oben
beschrieben goldbraun backen.

Anmerkung: In Amerika werden für dieses Rezept wirklich grüne, unreife
Tomaten verwendet. Da diese gesundheitlich nicht ganz unbedenklich sind,
sollten Sie hellrote, feste Früchte wählen.
